One guideline from the code of ethics that is very meaningful to me is:
We shall demonstrate the highest standards of personal integrity, truthfulness, and honesty in all
our professional activities in order to inspire the trust and confidence of the children and families
and of those with whom we work.
I have always been a firm believer in treating everyone with respect and dignity. You have to show children and families that they are important, and that they are being treated fairly. Teachers should always be honest and truthful with parents if they want to earn the respect of families. This is very important. When parents trust their child's teachers they are more likely to build a good relationship that will benefit their children.
Two  ideals that I find meaningful comes from the NAEYC code of ethical conduct, they are:
This is important because in order to provide children and familes with the best services that fit their needs, you have to stay abreast of new information on early childhood and other information that affects children and their families. The more knwledgable you are on child development, the more you can provide children with great practices that will enhance their development.
Family participation is very important to a child's healthy development. Children are more likely to do better when they have their families support and involvement. In order for this to happen we must encourage families to get involve. We must create a warm caring environment that welcomes family and assist them in their efforts to help their children.

Hi Michele,
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of things do you do in your class to feel parents welcome? I am always searching for new ideas to include parents in the class.
Hi Julie,
ReplyDeleteI speak with them to learn about their background, and their values. I post pictures of all of my families inside the classroom. I allow them to bring in items that are appropriate, to help include in our classroom surroundings. Someone may bring in a table cloth for our dramatic play area. Someone may come in and bring some books that they love.
Dear Michele,
ReplyDeleteIt was a pleasure meeting you via this class. I appreciated your insights and all the sharing of your experiences. I find you really wise and honest about the challenges this field creates as well as already knowledgeable about leadership.
Michele,
ReplyDeleteI can relate to you. I love reading your blog. You seem very passionate about children and that is half the battle. Thank you for sharing all of your insight! Good luck in the future.
