Research that Benefits Children and Families

If I could conduct research now I would choose the topic of self-regulation. I have always wondered what makes some people learn to manage their emotions and have self-control and others do not. I would like to know what was different in their lives or genes that allow some people to lack self-control. I would like to know if it is something that can be learned or does genetics play a role in self-regulation.

In conclusion, I think that this would make a positive contribution because we would have a society with less violence. This would be a great benefit to the world. I definitely think that there has to be some way to teach self-control regardless if genetics plays a part in self-regulation. The positive contribution would be a world with less aggression and anger.

  1. Michele,
How interesting that we have both chosen the same sub topic to research! Maybe we will be able to compare notes! Have you found anything interesting yet?

    Thanks,
    Deb

  2. Michele,
This is a wonderful topic to explore. I agree self-regulation is a big issue in children and brings a lot of aggression and behavior problems in the classroom. Educators would definitely benefit a lot from this research.

  3. Michele- I agree that self-regulation is a huge issue for people today. That goes along with entitlement. Why is it that so many people these days feel like they deserve everything without working for it? Good choice of topic. I am interested in finding out your results.
